Dog boarders in Belfast

Belfast's dog walking landscape is shaped by the hills that ring the city. Cave Hill Country Park (where you can see five counties from the top) and the Belfast Hills behind it give the city genuine off-lead heathland minutes from the centre. Botanic Gardens, Ormeau Park, Victoria Park, Falls Park, Lagan Meadows, and the Lagan Towpath running from Stranmillis out to Lisburn all carry steady dog traffic. The towpath is a daily fixture for thousands of dogs - 11 miles of flat, mostly traffic-free walking, with the rivermouth and the Giant's Ring as waypoints. Helen's Bay and Crawfordsburn down the coast are weekend draws.

South Belfast (Stranmillis, Malone, Lisburn Road) and the inner-east (Belmont, Stormont) are heavy walker and grooming territory. City centre apartments around the Cathedral Quarter and Titanic Quarter lean on daycare. Boarding fills around the Twelfth, school holidays, and Christmas. Belfast's compact size means many walkers cover both north and south sides of the river within their range.

Northern Ireland's licensing regime sits under the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 and the dog control regulations, which differ from the English 2018 and Scottish 2021 schemes. Belfast City Council enforces dog-related licensing through environmental health. Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, and Ards and North Down Borough Council all have their own arrangements - check which council issued any boarder's licence. The Lagan Towpath has lead requirements on certain bridges and near the Lagan Meadows nature reserve during nesting season.
